Otis always skipped breakfast on mornings when backpacks, fishing gear, or snowshoes were being loaded into the truck — too excited to bother with his bowl of kibble. That left him hungry and dragging on long cold days on the river, or putting in big miles in the backcountry.
So his dog mom teamed up with her sister Dr. Jenee Daws, a veterinarian in Bozeman, and brother Geoff, an avid hiker in Denver, to create Backpack Bars, healthy, hearty trail treats for pups on the go.
Now, rather than lugging a bulky bag of kibble plus an extra dish up mountains or on road trips, we grab a couple of Backpack Bars and head out.
Jami started baking Backpack Bars in her kitchen to bring along on backpacking and river trips around their Northern California home in Redding.
Otis is a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon who is stoked to be the beneficiary of months of Otis bar recipe testing. He loves finding "that bird" and hates the UPS truck.
JENEE (DR. DAWS)
Jenee is a veterinarian practicing in Bozeman, Montana, where she enjoys the local trails, slopes, and rivers with her family.
Gus is a Yellow Lab who loves singing the Michigan State fight song and breaking trail. He hates the vacuum and beeping noises.
Geoff spends his weekends hiking and fishing around his Denver home. He and Stella are working on climbing Colorado's 14ers.
Stella is a lab mix who is faster than anybody at the dog park. She loves anything squeaky, and dislikes nail trims.
